Martinsburg

Living History With So Much To Do

It's hard to decide what is the biggest reason to love Martinsburg, West Virginia. Is it the rich history? After all, this city was settled in the 1800s and was occupied by both sides in the Civil War. This is a town where you can expect to see the colonial stone architecture, childhood home of Belle Boyd, a confederate spy for General Stonewall Jackson, and visit the simple cabin of  the early settler Morgan Morgan, builder of Martinsburg’s first public road.

Martinsburg's historic atmosphere includes beautiful old brick buildings and one of the oldest functioning commuter rail stations in the country. It has been beautifully updated, and the MARC train station provides easy access to Washington DC. The city is populated with beautiful 300-year-old stone structures, like the General Adam Stephen House and Triple Brick Museum.

Great For Kids And Families

In addition to historical activities, family fun is everywhere in Martinsburg. There is a youth fair, historical ghost tours, treasure hunts, music festivals, and underground tunnels. There is also a unique kids' museum called For the Kids by George, a hands-on experience that attempts to connect children with their American heritage and railroad history. Take your kids apple picking at one of a dozen local orchards, like Orr’s Farm Market, Mackintosh Fruit Farm or Virginia Fruit Farm (which even features a choo-choo for little ones) and enjoy their unique cider creations.

If you're familiar with West Virginia's nickname, "the Mountain State," you will not be surprised at the abundance of outdoor adventures for people of all ages. Less than 30 minutes north, you can fish or kayak in the beautiful Opequon.

If hiking is what you are looking for the area presents options for any level at the popular Weverton Cliff Trail, a gorgeous but challenging hike up to a great view of the cliffs. The Hollow Brook Trail, a more peaceful layout, has shorter options along the creek, leading to a small waterfall. A short drive will also get you to Crystal Grottoes Caverns—a quaint walk through cave of stalactite formations.

Geocaching Craze

This charming city holds the unique badge of being in one of the favorite geocaching counties in the US. What's geocaching, you might ask? It's a treasure hunt for children and adults that uses GPS to find cache boxes hidden by other geocachers. This adventure is delightful and makes Martinsburg one of the treasure-hunting capitals for locals and tourists alike.

Besides the beautiful and lush landscape, West Virginia has a large variety of insects, nine hundred and fifty-eight, to be exact. Here at Black Knight Pest Services, we know just what to look for. We've been here for 20 years, and we have battled the heavyweights, including termites, rodents, and Bed Bugs. Older buildings, rehabs, and updates often present their own issues, and we keep that in mind when developing a plan of action. We are a part of this community, proud to do our part in keeping Martinsburg pest-free. With that, we use the most responsible products, specializing in non-toxic options.
